Recently, the Textile Science and Engineering Practice Workstation of the School of Textiles and Fashion at Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) organized a study tour on intangible cultural heritage for high school students, visiting two textile museums and the Jingbo Qinhan Fashion Center.
The study tour began with a lecture by Professor Xin Binjie's team, followed by interactive exchanges among participants. After the class, students received textile-related reading materials and will proceed to laboratory practice sessions. The activity leveraged the school's resources in textiles, intangible cultural heritage creative products, and AIGC digital pattern design to connect three practical scenarios: cultural museums, industry, and intangible cultural heritage.
At the museums, teachers and students viewed textile artifacts and traditional patterns. The guide outlined the development of textiles and explained the meanings behind classic patterns. Participants collected fabric and embroidery materials to accumulate creative resources for AIGC digital fashion design.
At the Jingbo Qinhan Fashion Center, industry mentors explained the design and innovation concepts of Shanghai-style cheongsams and conducted a hands-on workshop on traditional frog buttons. Participants made their own frog buttons, experiencing the charm of traditional craftsmanship.
During the on-site exchange session, high school students discussed topics such as AI pattern design and Chinese-style creative products with current university students and enterprise designers. Undergraduate students demonstrated the digital creation process of AIGC patterns.
This series of innovation practice activities serves as the school's aesthetic education bridging secondary and higher education, as well as a science popularization practice integrating industry and education. It builds a professional practice platform for high school students and collects creative materials for the workstation's digital pattern research. Going forward, the workstation will continue to collaborate with cultural museums and fashion enterprises to launch study courses that integrate traditional culture with digital technology, cultivating versatile creative design talents.
